How to Locate Your Water Meter in Logan, Gold Coast & Brisbane South

Don't wait until a burst pipe floods your home to find your water meter. Knowing where it's located could save you thousands of dollars in water damage.

When a plumbing emergency happens, every minute counts. Whether you've discovered a burst water pipe, a leaking tap that's suddenly failed, or water pouring from your hot water system, the first thing you should do is turn off the water supply.

The problem? Many homeowners, tenants and property managers don't actually know where their water meter is.

To help, our team at Moyle Plumbing & Gasfitting has created a quick video showing you exactly where to look and what your water meter typically looks like.

Why It's Important to Know Where Your Water Meter Is

Finding your water meter before an emergency occurs can:

  • Reduce water damage to your home

  • Help prevent expensive repair bills

  • Minimise damage to flooring, walls and furniture

  • Stop unnecessary water waste

  • Allow you to isolate the water before your plumber arrives

If you're a landlord or property manager, this is also valuable information to pass on to your tenants, as acting quickly can significantly reduce the extent of water damage.

Where Is My Water Meter Usually Located?

In most homes throughout Logan, Brisbane South and the northern Gold Coast, your water meter is usually located:

  • Near the front boundary of your property

  • Close to the footpath or kerb

  • Inside a small rectangular meter box with a removable lid

  • Sometimes near the driveway or front fence

Depending on the age of your home, the exact location may vary slightly, but it's almost always positioned where Queensland Urban Utilities or your local water authority can access it without entering the property.

What Does a Water Meter Look Like?

Your water meter is generally housed inside a small plastic or concrete box set into the ground.

Inside you'll usually find:

  • Your water meter

  • The main isolation valve (stop tap)

  • Pipework connecting the water supply into your home

Our video shows exactly what to look for and where the isolation tap is located.

What If You Can't Find Your Water Meter?

If you can't locate your water meter:

  • Walk around the front boundary of your property.

  • Look for a rectangular meter box sitting flush with the ground.

  • Remove leaves, mulch or grass that may be covering the lid.

  • If you're in a townhouse or unit complex, the meters may be grouped together in a communal meter bank.

If you're still unable to locate it, don't worry. Give our friendly team a call and we'll point you in the right direction.
