A tempering valve is a device that safely mixes the hot water from the hot water system with cold water to ensure constant, safe water is delivered to the tap fixtures in the home such as your shower, bath & vanities. A tempering valve is to prevent scalding, ensuring that the delivery of the taps in the home is tempered water to less than 50 degrees.

It is recommended by the manufacturer of tempering valves that they be replaced every 5 years. Your tempering valve may need to be cleaned out more often than this. We recommend you contact us for a service to not only the tempering valve, but all valves on your hot water tank. This work should only be performed by a licenced plumber as the hot water needs to be shut down to prevent scalding and the water pressure must be released prior to undoing any hot water fittings.
