How to Apply Teflon Tape on Threads

What is Thread Tape?

Thread tape is also known as Teflon tape, plumbers tape & PTFE tape. It is a thin, white polytetrafluoroethylene film tape.

Where can you buy thread tape?

You can buy it from plumbing supplies, hardware shops, garages & even in some supermarkets.

What is thread tape used for?

Thread tape is used to seal the thread on plumbing pipes & fittings to stop them leaking. It also aids in preventing the thread seizing when being unscrewed.

How to apply teflon tape on threads - is there a correct way?

Yes. You must apply thread tape by turning it clockwise around the thread.
When the fitting is connected, the fitting is installed the same clockwise direction, sealing the fitting & not pealing back.
